Job Description

RVCC is currently seeking a Part‑Time Career Coach to assist in carrying out the mission, vision, and strategic goals of the department. This student‑facing role specializes in providing career guidance to meet students’ career development needs in the following skill areas: resume and cover letter writing, interviewing, Linked In, networking, workplace professionalism, industry expectations, job/internship search, and personal branding. The coach will equip students for making career plans and achieving career goals by facilitating awareness of their work‑related strengths, skills, interests, and values and by preparing students to obtain internships, cooperative education, and experiential learning opportunities.

The individual assists in providing career and professional development support to RVCC students through individual coaching and group workshops, contributes to outreach efforts with faculty to integrate career readiness into the curriculum, and supports on‑campus and online career success programs and events that benefit 1st generation, underrepresented students and alumni.

Essential Duties
  • Conduct initial one‑on‑one student internship/co‑op intake meetings.
  • Guide students with resume, cover letter, Linked In, and interview preparation for those interested in internships, co‑ops, and on‑campus employment.
  • Help students create individualized career action plans and utilize job/internship search platforms (Handshake, Linked In, etc.).
  • Assist the Career Success office with class presentations and customized internship and co‑op workshops requested by faculty.
  • Support the Career Success Manager with updating and maintaining the internship & co‑op manual and related materials.
  • Assist in assessing the effectiveness of all experiential learning programs.
  • Provide support with corporate internship partnerships and internship information sessions.
  • Participate in professional development activities to maintain knowledge of emerging trends in career coaching and development through organizations such as NACE, NCDA, and NJC

  • Represent the department at orientation, welcome weeks, admissions open houses, etc.
  • Assist with the Alumni and Employer Job Shadowing Program and corporate networking events.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Experience in career coaching and counseling college students.
  • Experience assisting students with resume, cover letter, Linked In, and interview preparation; a preferred certification in resume writing is welcome.
  • Demonstrated skill in engaging a diverse student population in resume, cover letter, Linked In, and interview preparation.
  • Knowledge of career development theory, pedagogy, and career advising.
  • Ability to establish rapport and relate well to students, faculty, employers, parents, alumni, and staff.
  • Excellent written, interpersonal, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all components of the College and external constituents, especially with students.
  • Experience creating and implementing career‑related programs and workshops.
  • Commitment to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and promoting an inclusive environment.
  • Comfortable working with computer technology and online web‑based services.
  • Demonstrated initiative, independence, organization, detail‑orientation, problem‑solving, and project management skills.
  • Familiarity or certifications in standard career assessments such as the Myers‑Briggs Type Indicator, Strong Interest Inventory, Clifton Strengths Finder, and NACE career competencies.
  • Knowledge and skills in outreach and marketing, including digital flyer design and creative student engagement.
