Speech Language Pathologist
Responsibilities Include
  • Assess and analyze students' communication competencies and characteristics.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver treatment programs for children with speech and language needs.
  • Provide diagnostic evaluations of pupils referred to the child study team for communication disorders and participate in team conferences related to those pupils, as appropriate.
  • Develop, implement and oversee individualized educational programs (IEPs), in conjunction with parents and teachers, for students who are eligible for speech correction
  • Provide individual and small group intervention sessions with students who have been found eligible to receive services.
  • Maintain close liaison with the child study team and serve as a case manager as assigned.
  • Keep those records necessary for each child
  • Provide individual or group in-service experiences for staff and parents as appropriate.
  • Conduct ongoing evaluation of all children in the program to determine appropriateness of their program.
  • Act as educational consultant to classroom teachers, counselors and administrators as needed.
  • Assume primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education and other professional growth activities.
  • Assume other related duties as assigned by the Chief Education Officer or Director of Special Education.

  • Communicates responsibly with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and school leadership;
  • Accounts for student attendance and punctuality;
  • Follows all county, state, and federal policies and procedures;
  • Follows professional ethics in all work-related activities;
  • Prepares adequately for responsibilities to be assumed when absent;
  • Avoids behaviors which detract from staff morale;
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Proven communication and instructional strategies;
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge in the field of Speech-Language pathology
  • Ability to effectively apply the principles of assessment, treatment and prevention/correction of speech, language, and hearing disorders.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing;
  • Excellent organizational skills.
Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with state law, administrative code and provisions of the board's policy on the evaluation of certified staff.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university;
  • Valid NJ Education Services Certificate or Speech - Language Specialist Endorsement;
  • Pass a physical examination in accordance with statue and board policy
  • NJ Criminal History;
  • Work authorization in the U.S.;
  • Tuberculosis Test;
  • Experience is a plus.
