Job OverviewWe are seeking a dedicated and energetic
Autism Paraprofessional to join our team in Stewartsville, NJ, during afternoon hours.This vital role involves providing personalized support to students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and other developmental disabilities within a special education setting. As an Autism Paraprofessional, you will work closely with teachers, therapists, and families to create a nurturing environment that promotes learning, social skills, and behavioral growth. - Assist in implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to each student’s needs, including behavior management strategies and communication goals.
- Support students with autism spectrum disorders through classroom activities, social interactions, and daily routines, fostering independence and confidence.
- Provide physical assistance for students requiring mobility support or help with classroom tasks, ensuring safety at all times.
- Use effective classroom management techniques to maintain a positive learning environment and promote appropriate behavior.
- Collaborate with teachers, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and other professionals to develop consistent strategies that support student success.
- Incorporate communication skills such as American Sign Language (ASL) or alternative augmentative communication (AAC) devices to facilitate student expression.
- Support literacy education, basic math skills, and early childhood development activities aligned with the principles of Montessori and other educational frameworks.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive student information in accordance with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and district policies.
- Experience working with children or students with disabilities, especially those on the autism spectrum or with behavioral disorders.
- Knowledge of special education practices, classroom management, behavior management techniques, and IEP implementation.
- Familiarity with deaf education methods and experience working with American Sign Language (ASL) is a plus.
- Background in early childhood education or childhood development enhances your ability to support young learners effectively.
- Strong communication skills—both written and verbal to collaborate effectively with team members and families.
- Ability to provide physical assistance for students requiring mobility or behavioral support in a safe manner.
- Prior experience supporting students in private school settings or classrooms utilizing Montessori or similar educational philosophies is advantageous.
