Latin Teacher

The Peddie School seeks a leave replacement Latin Teacher to join its Language Department for the spring of 2027. We are seeking a candidate who is committed to: fostering a love of Latin literature and culture for students; developing students' fundamental Latin vocabulary and grammatical skills; making the study of Latin meaningful, exciting, and relevant to students; and being an active thought partner and teammate in the Language Department.

Candidates must demonstrate mastery of Latin literature and Roman history, mythology, and culture, and be able to teach Latin at multiple levels. Previous teaching experience and an advanced degree preferred.

• Overtly support and act in accordance with Peddie’s Mission and Core Values.
• Recognize that teaching happens everywhere in our community—classrooms, fields, stages, dorms, dining hall, Chapel, etc.—and use those teaching opportunities to help our students develop the intellectual, interpersonal, and ethical qualities that will benefit them as adults.
• Teach 3 to 4 classes each trimester, coach, supervise, advise and/or direct co- curricular activities, and contribute to the residential program.
• Demonstrate thoughtful planning and preparation for classes.
• Demonstrate enthusiasm for and curiosity about teaching in all areas of school life and show respect for individuals and for the community.
• Create a safe and nurturing environment for all members of the Peddie community.
• Serve as role models for Peddie students and help them aspire to the highest qualities of citizenship.
• Communicate with students, parents, and colleagues appropriately in the role of classroom teachers, advisors, dorm faculty, coaches, etc.
• Uphold professional standards of personal presentation, punctuality, professional courtesy, and discretion.
• Comply with the policies and procedures as articulated in the Employee Handbook.
• Respectfully interact and collaborate with colleagues in order to cultivate a culture of continuous improvement and to provide Peddie students with a superior academic and co-curricular program.
• Participate in professional development here on campus or off-campus with the support of Peddie’s professional development funds.
• Honor the confidentiality of school and student information.

Peddie meets for Saturday classes, and faculty teach most Saturdays during the school year. In addition, coaching responsibilities and dorm responsibilities include scheduled Saturday and Sunday duties.

Pay range is $18,000 to $23,000. Salary is dependent on numerous factors, including but not limited to education and experience.
