Job Summary: We are seeking an energetic Mechanical Design Engineer with experience in AutoCAD and Revit design, based in our Warren, NJ office. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of building design with emphasis on multifamily residential, mixed-use high-rise, hospitality, and commercial projects. The Mechanical Design Engineer performs inspections, tests, and produces plans, specifications, and reports for clients. This role is technical and managerial, requiring the ability to provide solutions and manage projects from feasibility through to construction administration, bidding, and close-out.

Lead small to medium HVAC projects and the roll out of mechanical HVAC engineering initiatives. Assist with development and implementation of mechanical HVAC design standards, policies and procedures, and interact effectively with internal and external teams.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Visiting project sites to analyze and document existing mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and electrical conditions.
  • Mechanical HVAC equipment selections.
  • Boiler plant design.
  • Chiller plant design.
  • Ductwork sizing and layout.
  • Pumping and piping system design and layout.
  • Air conditioning and heating load calculations.
  • Preparation of design and construction documents.
  • Cost estimate preparation.
  • Coordinate and manage internal kick-off, milestone, and closeout meetings for projects, fostering effective communication and collaboration among team members and stakeholders.
  • Verify schedules and ensure adherence to project plans and timelines, both internally and with external resources, to meet project objectives efficiently.
  • Conduct and coordinate on-site inspections, document existing conditions, perform field testing, photograph, and create hand-sketches. Monitor work in progress to ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Collect post-project feedback to identify areas of improvement and communicate the feedback to the direct supervisor.
  • Stay up to date with job knowledge and industry trends through educational activities and professional networks.
  • Engage in networking activities and represent the company at events and seminars; promote the organization’s presence in the industry.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the firm to contribute to the team’s success.

Special Requirements

  • Provide technical guidance to the team throughout design and construction phases, ensuring compliance with regulations, codes and standards.
  • Perform and coordinate design calculations and drawings.
  • Conduct peer reviews of technical data prepared by internal staff or third parties.
  • Perform and coordinate forensic inspections, applying technical expertise to assess conditions and identify issues.
  • Able to serve as an expert witness and participate in depositions, mediations, or litigation.
  • Conduct a wide range of testing, including material testing, structural analysis and performance evaluations; supervise testing activities and ensure accurate data collection.
  • Generate comprehensive field reports detailing observations and findings from site visits.
  • Generate expert reports with conclusions and recommendations based on project requirements and findings.
  • Oversee and assist in the development and review of technical specifications and construction documents.
Client Relations
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors and consultants to coordinate project activities and resolve technical issues.
  • Collaborate with legal teams and represent the firm in mediations, providing expert opinions and guidance.
