NY/NJ Area Wastewater Market Sector Lead

In the role of NY/NJ Area Wastewater Market Sector Lead, we count on you to drive growth and development in the wastewater market within New York and New Jersey, including wastewater treatment and effluent management, pump stations and pipelines, biosolids, and one water collaboration.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Advance business development strategies, pursue new clients and projects, and manage key client relationships.
  • Lead project management for key projects and provide technical input on projects.
  • Collaborate with other technical and marketing staff to secure new projects and lead selected key pursuits.
  • Serve as client manager for key clients, address client issues, and coordinate multiple projects.
  • Provide leadership in client management and coordinate with other market sectors.
Business Development Responsibilities
  • Assess the area’s marketplace and tailor technical business development tactics to capture new HDR clients and grow market share.
  • Collaborate cross‑sector with other Water Group sectors to implement market sector strategies and tactics.
  • Translate national market drivers into area‑specific strategies and tactics.
  • Develop pre‑marketing and relationship development with targeted clients.
  • Serve as Client Manager for selected key clients and participate in professional organizations and conference presentations.
  • Work with the NY/NJ Area Water Business Group Leadership Team and other internal leaders on market sector initiatives.
  • Deploy pursuit strategies and support client relationship development.
  • Identify key investments in recruitment and technology to maintain HDR’s industry leadership position.
  • Support marketing capabilities and monitor marketing effectiveness.
  • Develop relationships with industry counterparts and senior leadership in key client organizations.
Staff Development Responsibilities
  • Seek opportunities to enhance practices, win new work, and provide staff growth and development.
  • Mentor and grow Wastewater staff capabilities and talent through project delivery and staffing decisions.
  • Identify and recruit prospective market sector employees.
  • Support Area work‑sharing efforts within the East region and the broader Water Business Group.
  • Coordinate staffing/recruiting plans for key hires and assist with local hires.
  • Identify resource gaps and support talent management and recruiting.
Support to Key Program/Project Delivery
  • Promote client management and support the QA/QC program for successful project delivery.
  • Facilitate work sharing and optimize use of company resources.
  • Assist with contract review on key projects to manage risk, staffing, quality, and claims.
  • Engage in the PARR process and promote Quality Assurance/Quality Control.
  • Facilitate the development and dissemination of lessons learned.
  • Take on Project Management and Principal in Charge assignments to drive client satisfaction and staff development.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BS in Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Professional engineering registration in New York and/or New Jersey, or ability to obtain it through reciprocity.
  • 10+ years of experience with wastewater planning, design, and construction.
  • Strong experience and client relationships in the NY/NJ Wastewater Market.
  • Strong technical background in wastewater treatment systems.
  • Experience developing and managing strategic positioning and technical differentiation for planning and engineering services.
  • Experience managing a wide range of client relationships and specific program or project pursuits.
  • Experience in staff development, including recruiting, career path development, and professional growth.
  • Experience with industry associations and maintaining an active profile in the market sector.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with area and regional leadership across multiple teams.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Planning, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of industry experience.
  • Experience developing and managing strategic marketing programs for planning and engineering services.
  • Experience managing a wide range of client relationships and specific program or project pursuits.
