French & Parrello Associates (FPA) is seeking a Field Municipal Staff Engineer for our office in Newark, NJ. This is an exciting opportunity for a recent Civil Engineering graduate who is interested in municipal infrastructure, construction engineering, and field operations.
Responsibilities- Assist with observing and documenting construction activities for municipal and utility infrastructure projects, including water distribution, sanitary sewer, stormwater, and roadway improvements
- Support senior staff with monitoring contractor work to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, permits, and applicable standards
- Prepare daily field reports documenting project progress, site conditions, installed quantities, and completed work
- Take and organize photographic documentation of construction progress and key milestones
- Assist with tracking quantities and maintaining project records for payment applications and project documentation
- Communicate with contractors, municipal representatives, utility companies, and project team members regarding field activities and project updates
- Attend construction meetings and assist with documenting discussions, action items, and project progress
- Help verify materials, equipment, and workmanship meet project requirements and quality standards
- Support the review process for shop drawings, RFIs, and change orders under the guidance of senior staff
- Monitor project schedules and communicate potential delays or field concerns to project managers
- Observe job site safety practices and report unsafe conditions when identified
- Assist with project closeout activities, including punch list preparation and final inspections
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering field required
- Internship or co‑op experience in construction, transportation, municipal engineering, or utilities is a plus
- Interest in municipal infrastructure, construction inspection, and field engineering
- Basic understanding of construction methods, engineering plans, and specifications preferred
- Strong communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites throughout New Jersey as needed

The projected compensation range for this position is $70,000 to $77,000. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as experience, education, skill set and location.
