The work for this role includes inspection of borings and test pits, pavement coring and subgrade sampling, and related field and laboratory testing to define subsurface conditions including characterizing soil profiles and soil parameters for design of foundations, retaining structures, stormwater infiltration, and characterizing condition of pavement and pavement subgrades for design of pavement construction and rehabilitation. Candidates will be involved in a variety of projects including subsurface investigations for foundations, retaining structures, and evaluation and rehabilitation design of pavements.
Responsibilities- Perform geotechnical boring and test pit inspections, including collecting and logging soil and rock samples for laboratory testing.
- Supervise pavement coring and perform soil field testing, including collecting pavement and subgrade samples for laboratory testing.
- Characterize geotechnical subsurface conditions under the guidance of the geotechnical lead using data collected from borings, test pits, field testing, and laboratory testing.
- Characterize pavement and subgrade conditions under the guidance of the pavement lead using data collected from pavement cores, subgrade sampling, and laboratory testing.
- Prepare boring, test pit, and pavement core location plans to AID standards using CAD base files and mapping tools such as Google Earth.
- Prepare daily field reports and maintain project documentation.
- Perform hand and software-based geotechnical analyses including lateral earth pressure, stability, bearing, and settlement of geotechnical structures such as piles and drilled shafts.
