Position: Mechanical Power Uprate Project Engineer (Hybrid)
Location: Hancocks Bridge

Our client is seeking a Mechanical Power Uprate Project Engineer to serve as the Owner's Engineer supporting the Salem Power Uprate Project. This position provides technical leadership throughout the planning, design, fabrication, installation, testing, and commissioning of major plant modifications. The engineer will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, ensure compliance with nuclear regulatory requirements, and support the successful integration of new and upgraded plant systems.

This position is hybrid during the planning and design phases, with increased onsite support required during installation, refueling outages, and commissioning activities.

  • Serve as the Lead Responsible Engineer for plant modifications, including planning, scoping, and technical evaluations.
  • Coordinate the development, review, and approval of engineering calculations, specifications, drawings, and design documents.
  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering efforts involving Mechanical, Electrical, Civil/Structural, and Instrumentation & Controls teams.
  • Review vendor designs and fabrication details to ensure compliance with nuclear quality assurance and procurement requirements.
  • Support installation planning through constructability reviews, work packages, outage planning, and field coordination.
  • Provide field engineering support during installation to resolve technical issues and maintain design intent.
  • Maintain configuration control in accordance with plant modification processes and regulatory requirements, including 10 CFR 50.59.
  • Develop and support testing and commissioning activities, including test plans, acceptance criteria, and post-modification testing.
  • Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Licensing, Work Management, and Project Management throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assist the Project Manager with engineering schedules, risk management, issue resolution, and corrective actions.
  • Prepare technical presentations, design review packages, engineering justifications, and documentation for internal stakeholders and regulatory reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with nuclear safety culture principles, station procedures, and human performance expectations.
  • Support turnover activities, including as-built documentation, configuration updates, training materials, and equipment ownership transitions.
  • Provide onsite engineering support during refueling outages and forced outages as required.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Nuclear Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience supporting a commercial nuclear power plant or nuclear industry supplier.
  • Completion of engineering fundamentals and systems training at a U.S. commercial nuclear power plant.
  • Qualified as a Responsible Engineer under the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) Standard Design Process (IP-ENG-001).
  • Experience preparing and reviewing nuclear design basis and configuration control calculations.
  • Experience developing and reviewing installation testing and commissioning plans.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while working independently.
  • Ability to work shifts during installation and outage windows.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain:
    • Unescorted nuclear plant access
    • Compliance with random drug and alcohol testing
    • Authorization for access to 10 CFR Part 810 export-controlled information
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting a commercial nuclear power uprate project.
  • Experience with nuclear engineering software such as:
    • GOTHIC
    • RETRAN
    • Proto-Flo
    • Fathom
    • Proto-HX
    • AutoPIPE
    • ME101
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in New Jersey or another state.
  • Master's degree in Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience using SAP maintenance management systems.
  • More than 5 years of engineering experience at a commercial nuclear power plant.
