Civil Engineer
This Civil Engineer role focuses on site development and land development projects across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. You design and manage civil infrastructure systems, lead stormwater and wastewater solutions, and support projects from initial planning through construction. Responsibilities- Design comprehensive site development plans for residential, commercial, and industrial projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Prepare detailed grading, drainage, utility, erosion control, and stormwater management plans for a variety of land development projects.
- Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses in accordance with local and state regulations to support stormwater design and management.
- Design on-site wastewater treatment systems, including septic systems, disposal fields, and related infrastructure, based on project and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct and review soil evaluations, percolation testing, and septic feasibility assessments to determine appropriate wastewater solutions.
- Prepare Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) and supporting permit documentation for regulatory submittals.
- Coordinate permit applications with local municipalities, health departments, planning boards, and environmental agencies, managing the approval process.
- Develop construction documents, engineering reports, technical specifications, and cost estimates to support project bidding and implementation.
- Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to create accurate site layouts, grading plans, pipe networks, and utility designs.
- Participate in client meetings, public hearings, and agency reviews, presenting technical information clearly and professionally.
- Perform site visits and construction observations as needed to verify compliance with design documents and resolve field issues.
- Collaborate closely with surveyors, environmental scientists, architects, contractors, and project managers throughout project execution.
- Lead civil design efforts for site development projects, providing technical guidance and contributing to project planning and delivery.
- Support the growth of the civil engineering practice by contributing to process improvements and demonstrating readiness for leadership responsibilities.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification with a path to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) licensure within approximately 1 year, or current PE licensure.
- Hands-on experience with civil engineering design, including site development and land development projects.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D for creating site layouts, grading plans, pipe networks, and utility designs.
- Strong knowledge of stormwater design and stormwater management principles and practices.
- Ability to perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses in accordance with local and state regulations.
- Experience preparing grading, drainage, utility, erosion control, and stormwater management plans.
- Capability to design on-site wastewater treatment systems, including septic systems and disposal fields.
- Skill in preparing SWPPPs and related permit documentation for regulatory review.
- Ability to coordinate permit applications and interact effectively with municipalities, health departments, planning boards, and environmental agencies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports and participating in meetings, public hearings, and agency reviews.
- Ability to lead design efforts and take ownership of civil engineering deliverables.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail in technical work.
Skills & Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred but not required.
- Demonstrated ability to grow into a leadership role within a civil engineering or land development practice.
