Description Under the limited supervision of a supervisory official in a state department, institution, agency, or local government agency, performs complex technical or scientific work including field and office studies, surveys, inspections, or investigations associated with enforcement of environmental laws and/or regulations, and environmental review and control work, or organizes and carries out programs/projects designed to study and evaluate environmental impact of specific projects on the environment;

organizes and develops tests and reports to assess environmental impacts on physical, natural, and/or human environments; investigates environmental complaints concerning projects; conducts contract, grant, and/or loan processing; may be required to function as a lead worker providing guidance to lower-level Environmental Specialists; does other related duties as required.

Specific to the Position Positions 1, 2, 3 - Northern Field Operations:
This position will require the timely review of remedial action reports submitted by certified environmental contractors performing remediations of homeowner heating oil tanks and Licensed Site Remediation Professionals submitting remedial phase reports related to Educational Facilities and Child Care Centers. The technical reports are evaluated to determine compliance with soils and groundwater remediation standards. This position will require field inspections of sites including Educational Facilities and Child Care Centers, Remedial Action Permits, Unregulated Heating Oil Tank (UHOT) cases, and other environmental incidents/complaints.

Position 4 - Southern Field Operations:
This position will require the timely review of remedial action reports submitted by certified environmental contractors performing remediaitons of homeowner heating oil tanks. The technical reports are evaluated to determine if contaminated soils and groundwater are remediated to state standards. This position is mainly an office position, but may include field inspections when warranted.

Positions 5,6,7,8 - BSM:
Duties include managing publicly funded projects with other staff and supervisors in the bureau which includes coordinating site specific funding requests and invoice processing, access coordination, contractor oversight, scope of remedial work development, and scheduling. Additional responsibilities include technical evaluation of environmental data and remedy recommendations, community interaction, and cost recovery support. Fieldwork is a major part of the job responsibilities and includes site inspections, oversight of contractor's conducting construction activities.

Staff are assigned a state vehicle, a mobile phone, and a laptop since much of the work week is spent in the field.

Positions 9 & 10 - BCM:
These positions requires a timely review of highly complex remedial reports, workplans, and other documents submitted by environmental professionals on behalf of the responsible parties. The technical reports are evaluated to determine if contaminated media such as soils and groundwater are investigated and remediated to state regulations and standards.
