Consumer Loans Underwriter

Overview

Affinity is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Consumer Loan Underwriter to join our team. This position conducts risk analysis on consumer loan products and renders a credit decision in accordance with loan program requirements using digital technology in a remote environment. The underwriter builds member relationships by educating members and cross-selling Affinity’s products and services. Monitors pending consumer loan applications by following up on member inquiries during the loan process.

The underwriter leverages technology and data to provide timely access to credit for members.

The starting salary range for a new hire in this role is $60k to $65k. The wage/salary offered will depend on qualifying factors including but not limited to years of relevant experience, industry experience, and education.

• Evaluates consumer loan applications in accordance with Affinity’s policies, procedures, and guidelines; sets stipulations necessary to substantiate and complete loan requests; evaluates all required documentation.
• Makes lending decisions within established underwriting guidelines and makes recommendations on loans in excess of authority.
• Manage queues and underwrite direct consumer lending applications; maintain turn times; follow up on pending applications and stipulations; archive applications as needed; communicate with members via phone and email; coordinate with internal teams as needed; perform other duties as assigned.
• Meet all lending and regulatory requirements for loan reviews.
• Build and maintain member relationships.
  • Contact members regarding loan application decisions and discuss individual financial needs.
  • Handle branch and call center questions concerning a member’s loan application.

Performs duties according to established department procedures and adheres to credit union policies, procedures and guidelines.

Finalizes terms of approved loan applications and cross-sell ancillary products where applicable.

Must have the ability to analyze and verify all sources of income including pay stubs, tax returns, award letters, etc.

Maintains knowledge of all marketing promotions, products, services, policies and procedures.

• Minimum of 2 years consumer loan underwriting experience is required.
• Minimum of 2 years of sales experience in a financial institution is preferred.
• Previous experience in credit scoring and automated processing is preferred.
• Strong organizational, technical, analytical and independent decision-making skills.
• Experience with finance computations, lending calculators and general consumer loan applications.
