Personal Banker – Banking Service Professional

As a Banking Service Professional, the Personal Banker will provide effective support of sales and service activities within the banking office, developing new business by educating existing and potential clients and exemplifying Valley's quality service standards. Provides a variety of banking solutions by analyzing needs, recommending solutions and selling bank products and services to existing and potential clients. Perform a variety of routine banking transactions (teller and platform), while supporting the Market Manager in achieving quality service and complying with operational procedures.

Job Description

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing exceptional customer service in accordance with Valley's mission statement and engaging customers with friendly and professional service.
  • Knowledge of all bank products and services and ability to educate and demonstrate customers on such, as well as cross‑sell various products and services.
  • Presenting a confident and professional demeanor to establish trust and gain knowledge from the customer; analyzing needs and recommending appropriate products and services.
  • Meeting with customers to analyze financial needs and maximize sales opportunities, offering all bank products, opening new accounts (checking, savings, certificates of deposit and IRAs), discussing/selling loan products and promoting online and mobile banking.
  • Meeting customer expectations and achieving service quality standards; participating in the sales referral process and assisting management in coaching and mentoring branch staff.
  • Performing all required transactions and using appropriate technology to provide services most effectively; maintaining and balancing a cash box and utilizing teller scanning, cash recycling and dispensing equipment and coin machines.
  • Acting as Vault Teller to ensure adequate branch cash for daily transactions, assisting with ordering, shipping, and distributing currency within prescribed limits.
  • Assisting in community events and supporting CRA initiatives, activities and programs.
  • Reporting significant matters, issues and unusual customer activity to the Manager; maintaining knowledge of compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintaining knowledge of the Bank's Code of Conduct and all policies and procedures.
Requirements

Required Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to write correspondence and demonstrate products and services to customers.
  • Excellent interpersonal‑customer service skills, attentiveness, information retention, tact and diplomacy.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills to uncover and resolve complex customer issues.
  • Ability to make sound, on‑the‑spot decisions regarding customer transactions; weighing customer satisfaction against bank exposure to loss or fraud.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram or scheduled form.
  • Deep understanding of retail banking and strong customer service skills; engaging customers in conversation about products and services.
  • Detail oriented, strong organizational skills, and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Required Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED and minimum 1 year of business services experience in branch banking and knowledge of branch operations or successful completion of a Valley Retail training program.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree with concentration in accounting, business, finance, economics or a related field is preferred.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with FIS/IBS (Integrated Banking Solutions).

Total Rewards Summary

Base salary determined by role, relevant experience, skill set and geographic location. Eligible positions may also receive commission‑based or discretionary incentive compensation. Pay Range

$17.74 – $29.57 per hour.
