DescriptionUnder direction receives and responds to telephone or other electronic requests for emergency assistance, including law enforcement, fire, medical, or other emergency services and/or dispatches appropriate units to response sites; does related work as required.

- Receives, evaluates, and prioritizes emergency and non-emergency telephone, radio, TTY/TDD, and electronic requests for service.
- Obtains, verifies, and documents critical information, including caller identification, incident location, nature of the emergency, and other information necessary to determine the appropriate response.
- Operates Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Automatic Number Identification (ANI), Automatic Location Identification (ALI), mobile data terminals, radio systems, and other communications equipment to receive, transmit, and document emergency communications.
- Dispatches law enforcement, fire, EMS, and other emergency or non-emergency personnel in accordance with established procedures and coordinates multi-agency responses when necessary.
- Maintains continuous communication with field personnel by receiving, updating, and relaying information while monitoring the status and availability of emergency units.
- Provides callers with emergency instructions, including first aid, CPR, safety precautions, and other pre-arrival guidance while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor.
- Enters, updates, and maintains records within NCIC, SCIC, CAD, and other agency databases while ensuring the accuracy, confidentiality, and integrity of information.
- Maintains communication logs, reports, statistical records, and other required documentation in accordance with established procedures.
- Activates emergency notification systems, monitors communications equipment, reports equipment malfunctions, and performs minor operational adjustments when appropriate.
- Assists with training, answers inquiries regarding agency policies and procedures, and learns new communication technologies and information systems as required.
One (1) year of experience in work involving the receiving, transmitting, and relaying of video display and/or radio messages, and in the receiving, relaying, and recording of complaints and requests for emergency assistance, which shall have included the use of video display, data processing, automatic number identification, automatic location identification, switching equipment, or other computer oriented-equipment.
Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP) means the first point of reception of a 9-1-1 call. Public Safety Dispatch Points (PSDP) means a location which provides dispatch services for one or more public safety agencies. Appointees to positions at Public Safety Answering Points and at some Public Safety Dispatch Points must have achieved training and certification by the Office of Emergency Telecommunications Services (OETS) in the Department of Law and Public Safety as required by NJAC 17:24-2.2.
License- Applicants must possess current Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) certification and 9‑1‑1 Officer certification at the time of application.
- Appointees will be required to posse a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
