The Borough of Belmar is seeking an experienced, highly motivated municipal professional to serve as its next Business Administrator. Belmar is a vibrant Jersey Shore community with significant seasonal operations and service demands. Approximately 6,000 year-round residents, increasing to approximately 36,000 seasonal residents, with the potential for an additional 30,000-day visitors on peak summer days; $27.6 million municipal budget; 78 full-time employees, 67 part-time employees, and 365 seasonal employees;
1.61 square miles; 1.4 miles of coastline, including approximately 1.3 miles of boardwalk. Belmar is organized under the Faulkner Act Small Municipality form of government. Reporting to the Mayor, the Business Administrator oversees the day-to-day administration of various aspects of Borough government, assists the Mayor in supervising and directing Borough departments as provided in the Municipal Code, and works closely with the Mayor and Borough Council in implementing the Borough’s policies and priorities.
The Administrator will work closely with department heads, professional staff, employees, residents, businesses, and community stakeholders and provide administrative support to the Mayor and Borough Council. Belmar is seeking a collaborative, hands-on, and results-oriented leader with sound judgment, strong organizational and financial management skills, and excellent interpersonal and communication abilities. The successful candidate should be able to build productive working relationships and demonstrate a commitment to responsive and professional local government.
Experience working in a coastal community, familiarity with FEMA programs and requirements, and knowledge of coastal resilience planning are highly desirable. A bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, finance, political science, or a related field is required; a master’s degree is preferred. Significant progressively responsible municipal management experience is strongly preferred, particularly in New Jersey, along with knowledge of municipal finance, personnel and labor relations, and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
Salary: $175,000 to $185,000, DOQ/DOE. The Borough of Belmar is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
