The family of Edward
D. Haggerty is proud to announce that we are offering a scholarship to a graduating senior from any school in the Freehold Regional High School District. Ed H fifty (50) years of his life to the world of firefighting, starting at age sixteen (16). Fighting fires and responding to ambulance calls as an Emergency Medical Technician, Ed helped many of his fellow citizens during his time as a volunteer with Company #19 in Lansdowne, PA.,
and Company #1 in Darby, PA. This scholarship in his memory is intended to assist students who are, like Ed was, dedicated to helping others in need. Specifically, we are seeking applicants, based on the criteria below, who are committed to active community service through volunteer and/or professional firefighting.
One (1) - $250.00 Scholarship per year
Scholarship Criteria
- A minimum of one (1) year service as an active volunteer firefighter- in good standing.
- To verify service a signed letter on Fire Department letterhead is required, indicating time of active service, and any distinctions earned-if applicable.
- On track to graduate from FRHSD and accepted into a 4- or 2-Year College, University, Academy, Specialized/Technical School, or signed an agreement to enlist in the Military upon graduation. (A copy of your acceptance letter or agreement must be attached to the application.)
Application Criteria
- Submit a 350-500-word essay on the following topic: “How has your involvement in the Fire Department affected your idea of citizenship and community service and what will you take from it into your future endeavors?”
Evaluation Criteria - Scholarship will be evaluated by the family of Edward
D. Haggerty, who will attend the Senior Awards Ceremony to present the award in person.
