Hope’s Promise is seeking Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), also known as Mentors, to support youth and/or adults with I/DD, autism, and behavioral support needs in South, Central or North Jersey. This role is great for people who enjoy helping people grow, learn, and build confidence in the community. Because our participants love getting out and exploring, this position works best for someone who can drive and has access to a reliable car.
Scheduling- SCHEDULING: Build a workweek that fits your life. During onboarding, we review available assignments with you and together develop a consistent weekly work schedule supporting individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities in their family homes, at activities in the community or during over extended themed weekend respites. Part time and full-time hours are available.
- AVAILABLE COMMUNITY BASED ASSIGNMENTS: Assignments are consistent weekly visits scheduled at the same time 1 to 3 times per week. The length of each visit varies (usually averaging 2 to 8 hours per visit depending on assignment).
- SERVICE
LOCATION:
Support is provided at the individual's family home and at activity locations in the community; this is not a group home or day program setting. - ASSIGNMENT TRAVEL TIME: Varies - assignments available in all areas of NJ and assignments are by mutual agreement.
- RATE: $20/hour plus mileage reimbursement when travelling with a participant in your personal vehicle.
- Supporting children and teens with I/DD in their homes and communities.
- Supporting communication, social skills, and emotional regulation.
- Modeling positive behavior and coping strategies.
- Helping youth build independence and confidence.
- Engaging in fun, structured community activities (parks, library, YMCA, outings).
- Following clear behavior‑support strategies and safety plans.
- Assisting with toileting routines, including pull‑ups or diapers when needed.
- Driver’s license + reliable transportation.
- Ability to pass background checks.
- Comfortable supporting youth with I/DD and daily living needs.
- Strong communication, patience, and follow‑through.
- Experience in caregiving, childcare, or supporting a loved one is a plus.
- Interest in caregiving, behavioral support, psychology, education, ABA, or human services.
