Medical Assistant
Located in Piscataway, New Jersey 08854, the Medical Assistant is a key role in our practice, creating a strong first impression for patients and ensuring they feel cared for by our team.
Responsibilities- Assist nursing staff with direct patient care, including chart preparation, vital‑sign monitoring, and various screenings.
- Maintain practice workflow by organizing exam rooms, ordering supplies, and handling blood draws or point‑of‑care testing as directed.
- Follow instructions closely, reporting observations and symptoms related to treatments and patient complaints.
- Ensure timely appointments by managing patient scheduling, cancellations, and referral of new patients.
- Initiate appointment reminder calls in a professional and courteous manner.
- Demonstrate effective oral, listening, and written communication skills to facilitate positive customer relationships and staff interaction.
- Prioritize duties, complete tasks accurately and efficiently, and maintain confidentiality.
- Obtain and enter patient history, chief complaint, and medication list into the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, including HIPAA, OSHA, and company policies.
- Perform additional office duties: answering phones, faxing, filing, inventorying supplies, and restocking exam/procedure rooms.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, and adhering to infection control and confidentiality guidelines.
- Assist with miscellaneous tasks as requested by providers, coordinators, and management to enhance practice reputation and provide value.
- High School Diploma or GED with medical office experience.
- Two‑year degree from an accredited Medical Assistant program (certification preferred).
- CPR certification.
- Experience with EHR/EMR systems (Athena preferred).
- Knowledge of pre‑authorizations and referrals.
- Ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
- Clear communication of medical information to practitioners and the public.
- Strong confidentiality practices and responsible judgment.
- Good interpersonal skills, urgency, proactivity, and ownership of work.
- Dependable with a strong work ethic and high personal integrity.
- Ability to manage multiple interruptions while maintaining professionalism.
- Constructive teamwork to achieve positive outcomes.
- Accountable for personal actions and responsibilities.
The role requires standing, walking, and assisting patients with mobility, as well as handling supplies and maintaining documentation. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for qualified individuals with disabilities.
CompensationHourly rate: $17.00 – $26.00, based on experience and qualifications. Additional benefits include access to market data for internal equity.
