WJM Professional Services, LLC is a leading healthcare management firm with 20 years of experience providing healthcare personnel, and administrative staffing services to government agencies, including the Defense Health Agency, the United States Air Force, Army, Navy, Coast Guard, National Guard, and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

We are currently recruiting for a Certified Medical Assistant/Medical Assistant (CMA/MA) at U.S. Coast Guard in Ketchikan, AK.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide professional services to U.S. Coast Guard locations specified in the Performance Work Statement (PWS).
  • Assess patient needs for CMA/MA care, plan for medical interventions, assess the effectiveness of interventions, and alter the medical plan and interventions appropriately.
  • Administer oxygen, subcutaneous, and intra-muscular medication.
  • Prepare patients for surgical and/or diagnostic procedures.
  • Prepare, operate, and monitor specialized equipment such as cardiac monitors and defibrillators.
  • Inventory medicine and drug stocks to ensure adequate supplies and controls.
  • Provide immediate evaluation and management of emergent problems as they occur, in addition to regular scheduled appointments.
  • Greet and receive patients to the clinic, discreetly ascertain the nature of their illness or condition, and direct them to appropriate care.
  • Respond to requests for routine non-medical information such as duty status.
  • Receive and screen phone calls.
  • File and maintain healthcare records, including filing healthcare reports and maintaining the Health Record checkout file.
  • Input daily patient information into the Coast Guard Healthcare Information Systems.
  • Review and route incoming correspondence.
  • Schedule and track consultations for specialty care, and maintain a referral log to notify patients of appointments.
  • Review and verify patient eligibility for care in accordance with Defense Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System (DEERS) guidelines.
  • Provide instruction to clinic staff on an ad hoc basis.
  • Prepare and submit appropriate documentation as specified in applicable regulations.
  • Become familiar with the TRICARE medical benefits program and offer benefits counseling to Coast Guard beneficiaries regarding their TRICARE benefit.
Qualifications:
  • Must meet ONE of the following education, certification, or experience pathways:
    • A Certificate or Associate degree as a CMA/MA from a state-accredited program, and 12 months of experience within the preceding 36 months; OR
    • Certification from a military medical assistant “A” school (e.g., Health Service Technician, Hospital Corpsman), and 12 months of experience within the preceding 36 months; OR
    • 36 months of experience within the preceding 60 months as a medical assistant in a private practice, having completed the requirements for certification (CMA/AAMA, RMA/AMT, NCMA/NCCT, or CCMA/NHA).
  • Must maintain current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) for the Health Care Provider through the American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI), or the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP).
  • Must be a citizen of the United States, or otherwise authorized to work full time in the United States.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate with all persons seeking health care.
  • Must complete a National Agency Check with Local Agency Checks and Credit Check (NACLC) background investigation in accordance with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12); not authorized to begin work until a positive adjudication is received.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical examination confirming freedom from mental or physical disorders that would impair the ability to perform the work, administered no more than 30 days prior to the start of work.
  • Must be current on required immunizations, including annual influenza vaccination, proof of immunity to measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR), varicella immune status or history of chickenpox, and Hepatitis B vaccination (or a signed declination waiver).
