Performs overnight sleep testing procedures. Score the polysomnogram and generate report summarizing sleep/wake periods REM episodes, arousal analysis, EEG phenomena, cardiac events, respiratory events, limb movements and other physiological events according to current guidelines. Properly disinfect and sterilize appropriate equipment, electrodes and transducers. Evaluate infants. Pediatric patients and properly perform polysomnography for evaluation of sleep apnea and seizures. Perform overnight Diagnostic PSG (polysomnography studies), MSLT (Multiple Sleep Latency Test) CPAP and BiPAP Titrations, ASV, MWT, Split night studies, Home Study Testing, education of patients and mask fittings

Overnight testing procedures:

• Review existing information in the patient record.
• Examine orders and protocols for study.
• Recognize the chief sleep/wake complaint.
• Interview patients to assess current medications, recent caffeine or alcohol ingestions, current sleep pattern and need for treatment intervention during testing (e.g. insulin).
• Communicate with the ordering physician or center/lab director to clarify unclear or inappropriate orders and communicate information about the patient’s status.
• Set up and calibrate monitoring equipment.
• Measure and apply appropriate EEG electrodes using current standards.
• Apply appropriate EKG (heart), EMG (muscle), and EOG (eye movement) monitoring electrodes.
• Patient and equipment safety:
• Recognize and respond appropriately to patient’s medical problems and physiological events, especially cardiac dysrhythmia, respiratory events and seizures.
• Ensure safety and welfare of all patients, including those pediatric and psychiatric patients with special needs.
• Check the availability and function of emergency equipment.
• Comply with Universal Infection Control procedures.
• Appropriately handle hazardous materials.
• Complex procedures and special activities:
• Understand indications, contraindications, and adverse effects of nasal continuous positive airway pressure (NCPAP) and oxygen administration.
• Apply and titrate therapy based on physician’s order and established protocols.
• Conduct multiple sleep latency test (MSLT) and score using MSLT guidelines.
• Prepare report of MSLT, including number and time of naps, latency from sleep to onset of REM for each nap, and overall mean sleep latency.
• Patient recordkeeping:
• Maintain accurate records and file patient records.

Credentials:

• Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (Required)
• And 2 or more years in nocturnal sleep studies.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)

Education or Equivalent

Experience:

• Vocational/Trade Diploma
• Polysomnographic Technologist and 2 or more years in nocturnal sleep studies.

Salary Range: $26.73 - $42.64/Hourly As part of their job offer, successful candidates are provided a specific rate, taking into consideration various factors including experience and education.
