Job OverviewThe Patient Access Representative position plays a key role in the health system and in providing excellent customer service while ensuring timely throughput and capturing all necessary data timely. A core function of this position is to ensure that all customers, external and internal, are treated with the highest level of respect. Clearly review and communicate all forms and obtain required signatures for services provided.
The Patient Access Representative ensures accuracy and thoroughness in collection and documentation of the patient's demographic and insurance information and utilizes the technology available to complete the registration. The Patient Access Representative participates in creating a positive environment for patient and colleague satisfaction.
- Provides excellent customer service to all patients, colleagues and other external and internal customers.
- Interviews patients, family members and other responsible parties to gather pertinent demographic and financial information, for scheduling, pre-registration and/or registration based on assigned work.
- Obtains and documents all demographic information to accurately identify the patient. Obtains insurance information, completes insurance verification and verifies appropriate authorization status, if required.
- Ensures that all orders/prescriptions are compliant with appropriate signatures, proper documentation of diagnosis, patient identifiers and are linked to the correct encounter, as applicable.
- Meets and exceeds department goals including accuracy, point of service collections and productivity.
- Ensures all required forms are provided, reviewed, properly explained and signed by the patient or an approved person on behalf of the patient.
- Informs patient of financial responsibility and collects appropriate dollar amount for services to be rendered.
- Demonstrates initiative and motivation in role; proactively identifies and resolves problems in an appropriate manner and escalates issues to leadership when necessary.
- May perform other duties as assigned or directed by management.
- You enjoy being patient facing fast paced environments.
- You have previous experience within a healthcare environment.
- You have excellent communication skills and lead with empathy for patients.
- You have computer skills.
- A High School Diploma
- Customer service experience
- Patient Access experience is preferred
- Medical terminology experience
- Be able to report to Oceanport, NJ for training
- Evening shift 3-11 PM
- Rotating weekends and holidays are required
