Database Administrator, Data Engineer
Location: Mount Arlington
Overview
The Database Administrator II is a professional responsible for managing and maintaining relational database systems across on‑premise and cloud environments. This role plays a critical part in provisioning, tuning, securing, and supporting Oracle and Postgre
SQL databases. The DBA II collaborates with engineering, infrastructure, and security teams to ensure database reliability, scalability, and performance, and contributes to initiatives that improve automation and operational excellence. Somebody with AI interest is also a plus; the company currently uses enterprise Chat GPT, Perplexity, and Cloud Code to enhance productivity. Hybrid role:
Onsite 2 days per week (Tues, Wed), remote Mon, Thurs, Fri. Looking for someone within 1 hour of the Mount Arlington office.
- Independently provision and configure Oracle and Postgre
SQL databases for dev, test, and production environments - Perform database patching, backup and recovery operations, and access control management
- Monitor performance metrics, investigate alerts, and perform SQL and instance‑level tuning
- Collaborate with software engineers to support schema changes and performance review cycles
- Contribute to HA/DR planning, replication setup (e.g., Oracle Data Guard), and environment refresh processes
- Participate in capacity planning and regularly assess infrastructure health
- Begin contributing to automation of routine administrative tasks using scripts and orchestration tools
- 2–4 years of experience administering Oracle and/or Postgre
SQL databases - Proficiency in SQL and database management tools (e.g., RMAN, OEM, SQL Developer, pg Admin)
- Solid understanding of Unix/Linux systems and shell scripting
- Working knowledge of backup/recovery procedures, access control, and schema design
- Experience with Oracle multitenant environments and Postgre
SQL replication - Exposure to cloud database services (OCI, AWS RDS, Azure Postgre
SQL) - Familiarity with infrastructure‑as‑code tools (Terraform, Ansible) and Git version control
- Knowledge of compliance and audit practices related to data security
- Analytical thinking and attention to system performance and reliability
- Clear documentation and effective cross‑functional communication
- Initiative to troubleshoot and proactively solve operational problems
- Accountability for managing scheduled maintenance, patch windows, and database changes
This role represents a growing depth of expertise and operational responsibility in database administration. The next step in this track is Database Administrator III, where the individual will be expected to handle strategic projects, lead major upgrades, and mentor junior staff.
Job Type & LocationContract to Hire position based out of Mount Arlington, NJ.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $55.00–$75.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
