Release Train Engineer (RTE)

Our client, a IT Services and Consulting company, is looking for a Release Train Engineer (RTE) for their Bedminster, NJ location. Responsibilities include facilitating Program Increment (PI) Planning, Scrum of Scrums, PO Sync, System Demos, and Inspect & Adapt workshops. The role also involves driving execution of the Agile Release Train, ensuring alignment between business objectives and delivery teams. The Release Train Engineer will track and communicate program-level dependencies, risks, issues, and impediments;

escalate and resolve blockers impacting train delivery. Coaching and mentoring Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and Agile teams on SAFe practices and continuous improvement are also key duties. The position requires managing relationships with stakeholders, program managers, and senior leadership to ensure visibility into program health and delivery status. The Release Train Engineer will drive relentless improvement through retrospectives, metrics (velocity, predictability, flow), and process optimization.

Supporting Dev Ops and Release Management practices to ensure consistent, predictable, and high-quality releases is also part of the role. Facilitation of collaboration across multiple Agile teams, vendors, and geographically distributed stakeholders is required. Support Lean Portfolio Management by providing input into roadmap planning, capacity allocation, and prioritization is also necessary. Ensuring adherence to Agile/SAFe ceremonies, artifacts, and governance standards across the train is essential.

Requirements include 10+ years of overall experience in IT, software delivery, or program/project management. Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience specifically as a Release Train Engineer (RTE) is required. Strong working knowledge of SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework); SAFe RTE or SPC certification is strongly preferred. Proven experience managing Agile Release Trains with multiple Scrum teams (typically 5-12 teams) is necessary. Solid understanding of Agile/Scrum/Kanban methodologies and enterprise Agile transformation is required.

Experience with Agile tooling (Jira, Azure Dev Ops, Rally, or similar) for tracking program-level metrics and dependencies is needed. Excellent stakeholder management, facilitation, and conflict-resolution skills are essential. Strong communication skills with the ability to influence at multiple organizational levels are required. Experience working with distributed/cross-functional teams across time zones is necessary.
