Cox Automotive is seeking a Principal Database Administrator to lead the design, optimization, and reliability of large-scale database platforms powering our automotive marketplaces and data products. You will own database architecture, performance tuning, capacity planning, and high availability across cloud and on-prem environments. Partner with engineering and product teams to design resilient schemas, optimize queries, and enforce data security and compliance.
Mentor DBAs, drive automation and observability, and lead incident response, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement for mission-critical data systems.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain scalable, secure database architectures for high-volume applications
- Own performance tuning, indexing strategies, and query optimization across platforms
- Implement and manage high availability, backup, and disaster recovery solutions
- Lead capacity planning and growth forecasting for critical database workloads
- Collaborate with engineering and product teams on schema design and data modeling
- Ensure database security, compliance, and data governance best practices
- Automate database deployment, configuration, and monitoring processes
- Lead incident response, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis for database issues
- Establish standards, documentation, and best practices for database operations
- Mentor and guide DBAs and engineers on database technologies and performance
