Job Title: Inventory Control Manager

Dept: Product Overhead Fixed

Reports To: Plant Manager

Direct Reports: Material Handlers, Shipping Coordinator, Warehouse Personnel

FLSA Status: Exempt

Summary

The Inventory Control Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, directing, and accurately reporting all shipping, receiving and inventory management activities. This role will lead and develop the Shipping team while ensuring operational efficiency, order accuracy, and safety. The Inventory Control Manager will collaborate across Production, Sales, Customer Service, and their Shipping teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and finished goods.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage day‑to‑day Shipping activities including building loads, booking freight, and maintaining shipment accuracy.
  • Manage Shipping team including work assignments, process audits, hiring and training.
  • Ensure all storage, handling and shipping activities are conducted in alignment with the Enterprise Shipping Manual.
  • Responsible for inventory controls and counts. Ensuring proper storage, handling and staging of products by SKU, size, color, etc. in the warehouse and yard, in strict adherence to company policies.
  • Coordinate with Production Team to provide the Sales and Customer Service teams with information regarding shipment dates and potential delays.
  • Work closely with 3rd Party Logistics partners to book freight at competitive rates, maintain visibility and accountability for all shipments, and oversee freight claims as required.
  • Continually refine operational practices to ensure all activities are performed in compliance with safe work standards.
  • Inspire a culture of safety, 5S, LEAN and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure that ERP (IQMS) data is accurate while assisting in maintaining new inventory items and BOMS.
  • Must be a Team Player and Team Builder.
Required Experience
  • General Safety and Housekeeping Standards training.
  • Quality training (defect identification and escalation) as an asset.
  • Mandatory experience building loads and handling large shipments – TL and LTL.
  • Extensive shipping, receiving and warehousing experience.
  • Direct supervisory/management experience required – orchestrating daily employee schedules and department activities, conduct performance reviews, etc.
  • Forklift (PIV) certification; heavy equipment certification or experience preferred.
  • Hands‑on inventory experience – physically spending time counting and verifying inventory items in indoor and outdoor environments on a regular cadence.
  • Experience using year‑round cycle counting to maintain accurate inventory and FGI locations.
Knowledge, Skills, And Competencies
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Fluent in English and at least conversational Spanish.
  • Effective supervisory and leadership abilities, including training, coaching, and performance management.
  • Working knowledge of logistical and manufacturing safety requirements.
  • Experience with continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, OSHA 10, etc.) preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to motivate and empower teams.
  • Business acumen and data‑driven decision‑making capabilities.
  • Statistical analysis and presentation skills are an asset.
  • Ability to implement, use, train and manage inventory control systems (RF scanners, barcodes, inventory/yard layouts).
Work Environment
  • Exposure to typical manufacturing areas and outdoor work environments.
  • Industrial lighting; loud noise levels; proximity to moving mechanical equipment; cold, wind, rain, snow.
  • Required PPE: safety footwear, safety glasses, hearing protection, and other PPE as needed.
