General Description
If you have Machine Set-up, Mold Hanging, and/or Automotive experience you may be a great fit for this role.
The Mold Technician sets up and adjusts injection molding machines used to mold plastic materials in accordance with documented procedures and processes. Correctly and efficiently hang molds in our injection mold machines. Starts, qualifies, troubleshoots and evaluate process parameters of molded parts based on knowledge of machines, materials, blueprints and customer quality criteria. Monitors, evaluates and advises adjustments of Work Order Instructions in accordance with customer requirements.
Reports to Shift Supervisor. Regularly reports findings and successes to Production Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Follows company wide safety policies and procedures
• Reads specifications to determine machine setup and prescribed temperature and time settings. Positions, aligns, and secures assembled mold or mold components, and machine accessories, onto machine platens, using forklift, hoist, power tools, clamps, bolts, washers and hand tools.
• Performs IQMS actions directly related to production set ups.
• Maintains process sheets and delivers / returns documents to proper locations.
• Attaches connecting lines, such as air, oil, or water to mold, and adjusts controls to regulate mold temperature.
• Sets auxiliary equipment required for production of work order. This may include cleaning outgoing equipment to make it production ready for the next job.
• Sets machine control, regulating molding temperature, volume of plastic, molding pressure and time, according to knowledge of plastics and molding procedures.
• Starts machine to produce first piece samples. In conjunction with Quality, visually inspects first piece samples for surface and dimensional defects, using microscope, micrometer, and gauges, and adjusts machine setup to eliminate defects.
• Submits first piece samples, representative of production, to Quality for approval and takes necessary action based on Quality feedback.
• Reports unresolved process issues to supervisor.
• May repair and maintain machines and auxiliary equipment, using hand and power tools as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
• Perform duties of the Lead Operator, and Production Technician when required by supervisor.
• Reads specifications to determine machine setup and prescribed temperature and time settings. Evaluates settings based on material data sheets and process guides.
• Sets machine controls, monitors and confirms molding temperature, volume of plastic, molding pressure and time in accordance to knowledge of plastics and molding procedures.
• Starts and troubleshoots machine processes to produce sample product. Visually inspects sample product for surface and inspects for dimensional defects, using microscope, micrometer, and gauges, and adjusts machine setup to eliminate defects.
• Qualifies new and transfer tools as required using varying techniques which may include Scientific Molding principles and Tooling / Part Validation protocols.
• Generates, maintains and confirms Set-up sheet information as well as digitally stored process parameters.
• Performs multi-insert mold changeovers as needed.
• Works with the Tooling Dept. as needed for mold maintenance and evaluation.
• May repair and maintain machines and auxiliary equipment, using hand and power tools.
• Perform duties of the Set-up Mechanic and/or Material Handler when required by supervisor.
• All other duties as assigned.
