Job Summary
Crane Aerospace and Electronics is hiring a Buyer II for its West Caldwell, NJ site. The Buyer II manages all aspects of purchasing components from suppliers to ensure timely delivery of parts to support production needs. The role also serves as the communication and logistics link between Value Streams, Supervisors, Marketing, Master Scheduler, and Purchasing, and includes quoting and estimating new and repeat customer projects.
EssentialFunctions
- Communicate priorities and schedule changes to Outside Processing Suppliers on a daily basis to support changes in production requirements.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with suppliers; communicate common supplier problems with Leadership, Procurement Specialists and other Buyers.
- Monitor supplier orders to assure they are shipped on a timely basis to support the Value Stream.
- Obtain quotes from suppliers for production material, Outside Processing operations and to support customer proposals.
- Interact with sourcing teams to ensure best practices and greatest leverage in procurement, low‑cost region sourcing, supplier assessment & management.
- Publish daily shortage report to communicate current delivery information from suppliers.
- Manage supplier quality through the Non‑Conforming Report (NCR) Process; minimize production impact by ensuring discrepant materials are addressed with Manufacturing Engineering, Procurement Quality, Supervisors and Suppliers.
Experience: 5+ years buying in a similar industry or demonstrated equivalent knowledge of supply‑chain function through work experience or schooling. A BA or BS in Supply Chain, Business, or Materials‑related field may substitute for 2 years of experience.
Knowledge: In‑depth knowledge of the manufacturing process used in the operating unit of assignment; working knowledge of buying, ordering procedures; production planning, material requirements planning and Kanban systems; and computer systems that support production (e.g., inventory control, purchasing, production scheduling and MRP).
Skills/Abilities: Well‑developed communication skills; proficiency in Excel, Word and Access databases; ability to coordinate materials and production schedules with multiple teams, solve urgent problems, document and communicate production outcomes and trends; ability to perform math and logic computations requiring sequencing of times, critical incidents, and numeric information; ability to negotiate changes with vendors and manufacturing teams.
Education/Certification: High school diploma or equivalent.
Eligibility RequirementThis position may require access to Controlled Data or Information. Where the position requires such access, only U.S. Persons will be considered. As a U.S. Department of Defense contractor, we are bound by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
Preferred QualificationsBA or BS degree in Supply Chain, Business, or Materials‑related field (desired). Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment. Experience with Small Business reporting.
Working ConditionsNormal manufacturing environment. May require safety equipment such as eye safety glasses, gowning, masks, hearing protectors, heel/wrist straps and any other required PPE. May be exposed to loud noises, cold temperatures, confined spaces, dust or fumes. Occasional travel to support customers. Standing: 10%;
Sitting: 90%;
Lifting: up to 10lbs;
Pushing: up to 10lbs. Workspace: cubicle/desk.

Salary range: $71,500 – $87,600. Salary is based on experience, skills, training, and other qualifications.
