Client Overview:
Our client is a growing materials innovation company and is currently expanding their commercialization and production operations efforts, and they are looking to add a Wet Process Lab Technician to their team.
Salary/Hourly Rate:$25/hr - $28/hr
Position Overview:The Wet Process Lab Technician will support the treatment and development of advanced material samples using laboratory and pilot-scale wet-processing methods. The role also includes approximately one reimbursed trip per month to a partner tannery to support on-site production and development trials.
Responsibilities of the Wet Process Lab Technician:- Support day-to-day wet processing and testing of advanced material samples using laboratory and pilot-scale tanning drums.
- Prepare, weigh, and add dyes, softening agents, polymers, water-based solutions, and other processing materials according to established procedures.
- Mix, tumble, soak, and homogenize materials to achieve targeted color, softness, texture, flexibility, uniformity, and overall appearance.
- Adjust process variables under the guidance of senior team members, including time, temperature, drum speed, chemical concentration, and treatment sequence.
- Record batch details, processing conditions, observations, and test results, and compare finished samples against product targets and specifications.
- Identify and communicate differences in color, softness, texture, or overall material quality.
- Support product development trials, troubleshooting, sample preparation, pilot runs, and larger-scale production activities.
- Maintain clean and organized laboratory and processing areas while following chemical handling, PPE, environmental, and safety requirements.
- Collaborate with product development, quality, operations, and commercialization teams.
- Travel approximately once per month for reimbursed tannery visits and assist with on-site production or development trials.
- Gain exposure to formulation and process development as experience grows.
- 1-2 years of academic, internship, or professional laboratory experience involving wet chemistry, chemical preparation, material processing, coatings, polymers, dyes, pigments, or product development.
- Comfortable weighing, measuring, mixing, and handling liquid chemicals, additives, and laboratory materials.
- Ability to follow detailed formulas, batch instructions, standard operating procedures, and safety requirements.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately document batch information, processing conditions, observations, and results.
- Dependable, collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced product development environment.
- Able to take direction, ask thoughtful questions, and adjust priorities as projects evolve.
- Willing and able to travel approximately once per month for reimbursed visits to a partner facility.
- Experience with wet-processing equipment, mixing, blending, or homogenization.
- Exposure to dyes, pigments, coatings, polymers, textiles, leather, or flexible materials.
- Experience in a pilot plant, manufacturing, product development, or scale-up environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Textile Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific or technical discipline is required.
