Registered Nurse, Charge RN, Long Term Care
The charge nurse is responsible for the assessment, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of the delivery of safe and effective patient‑centered care during his or her assigned shifts on the unit. The role also assists the Nurse Manager with the quality of nursing care, personnel management, and management systems on the specific unit and designated shift.
Qualifications- Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing preferred.
- Three years of pediatric nursing experience preferred.
- Evidence of leadership ability.
- Evidence of interpersonal skill and ability to collaborate with others.
- Required to work every other weekend and meet holiday commitment.
- Must attend designated management meetings.
- American Heart Association BLS provider required.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification or eligible.
- Inpatient only: if not certified at hire, expected to receive certification within one year of hire.
- Current New Jersey RN license.
- Delivers direct nursing care and/or education to patients and families when indicated.
- Participates in the orientation, development, and supervision of personnel assigned to the unit.
- Motivates staff to improve performance and enhance unit and patient care outcomes.
- Displays competence in unit‑specific skills, serving as a resource and mentor for team members.
- Demonstrates an understanding of regulatory requirements and professional practice guidelines.
- May serve as relief supervisor in the absence of the supervisor, assuming responsibility for the assigned shift as applicable.
- Fulfills on‑call responsibilities when assigned.
- Ensures availability of appropriate equipment and supplies.
- Maintains knowledge and promotes the mission, vision, and values of CSH.
- Maintains competence as a staff nurse and serves as a resource to other team members.
- Assigns and delegates patient care, considering staff levels, nursing experience, competency, and knowledge.
- Collaborates with other departments to deliver safe, quality patient‑centered care.
- Consistently appraises clinical performance and learning needs through evaluation.
- Addresses performance issues appropriately while treating employees consistently, fairly, and respectfully.
- Exhibits consistent professional behavior and is accountable for actions regarding professional issues.
- Demonstrates effective communication, conflict management, interpersonal skills, and team‑building activities.
