Role Overview
Charge Nurse - RN supervises the day-to-day nursing activities of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in accordance with company standards and federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.
Essential Activities and Tasks- Operations Management and Administration (70%):
Direct day-to-day functions of nursing activities, assign work to CNAs, coordinate nursing services, administer medications and treatments, represent nursing department in interdisciplinary care plans, answer questions related to care, participate in committee meetings, identify and correct problem areas, provide direct nursing care as needed, consult with physicians, authorize restraints, admit/discharge patients, reduce hospital readmissions, attend meetings, provide in-service training. - Quality and Compliance, and Risk Management (20%):
Ensure nursing procedures are followed, maintain quality assurance program, oversee medication administration and storage, maintain cleanliness and safety of patient areas. - People Management and Development (10%):
Supervise CNAs, foster a positive work environment, interview and orient new staff, establish performance expectations, evaluate direct reports, provide developmental guidance, monitor compliance with policies, participate in training program planning, ensure staffing plan, respond to staff needs.
- Education:
Nursing degree from an accredited college, university or vocational school. - Licensure:
Current unencumbered license for the state of Ohio to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN). - Experience:
One year of clinical experience in a hospital, long term care facility, or other related health care facility preferred; supervisory experience preferred; proficiency with EMR preferred. - Language:
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Special Requirements
Sitting – up to 4 hours per day, Standing – up to 8 hours per day, Walking – up to 6 hours per day, Lifting/Transferring – up to 50 lbs, Driving – up to 6 hours per day, Travel – occasional, Weekend/Evening/Holiday work – as needed, On-call availability – 24/7 for emergencies. Risks include potential exposure to blood borne diseases, infectious waste, and other hazards related to residential care.
Requires ability to work in a physically demanding environment and to manage emergency situations.
