Job Duties
Dispensing medications
Supervising Certified Nursing Assistants, Caregivers/Aides
Communicating problems to the Director of Health Care Services
Follow the six "rights" of medication administration (right resident, right drug, right dosage, right time, right route, right record/documentation) each and every time assistance with, or administration of, a medication occurs.
Check each of the six "rights" of medication administration three different times:
- When the medication is taken out of the medication cart or cabinet
- Immediately before assisting with/administering the medication.
- Immediately after assisting with/administering the medication.
Maintain a neat, clean, organized medication cart/cabinet and restock the cart/cabinet as needed.
Provide residents with any treatment required as part of their individual service plan as designated.
The LPN will work in cooperation with all disciplines, e.g. the Physician, Dietary, Pharmacy, Social Workers, and all other consultants (occupational and speech therapy) communicating resident needs.
The LPN directly supervises the Caregivers.
The LPN will participate in Quality Assurance activities regarding the nursing service as directed by the Director of Health Care Services.
The LPN will supervise Caregivers to ensure respect of Residents' Rights.
The LPN will participate in educational in-services provided by the Director of Health Care Services.
The LPN will pass all competency tests defined by the organization.
The LPN will observe all residents carefully and report any changes or problems to the Director of Health Care Services and document this information in the Communication Log with date, time, and signature.
The LPN will perform other duties as requested and required.
Resident Services:
Provide quality care and assistance to residents in accordance with the residence philosophy, policy and procedure, and resident rights.
Assist residents in meeting their physical, emotional, spiritual, and medical needs to achieve and maintain their highest level of wellness.
Promote and protect the residents' rights to safe, prompt, and confidential treatment.
Answer and respond immediately to resident calls.
Respect the residents' right to refuse medication/treatment.
Protect the residents' safety with medications.
Explain to the residents what medication is being given and why, prior to assisting with/administering the medication.
Observe the resident for any adverse reaction to a medication and report it to the Director of Health Care Services immediately.
Maintain confidentiality of residents' records.
Control the spread of infection by following standard precautions.
Dispose of infectious and potentially infectious waste according to residence policy and procedure and OSHA regulations.
Establish and maintain a good relationship with residents and their families.
Respond to resident emergencies following proper procedures.
Position Qualifications
- Proven experience as an LPN
- Must have good character.
- Compassionate and able to handle stress.
- Ability to sit, walk, and stand for prolonged or considerable periods.
- Able to lift, position, and transfer patients, supplies, and equipment.
- Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching may be necessary.
- Interest in working with older adults.
Education
Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing or equivalent education as described by the state education law. Must have an unexpired NJ State LPN License from the New Jersey State Board of Nursing and/or a Compact Nursing License giving you access to practice in the state of NJ. CPR (BLS)…
