Posting Summary
- Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking an Infection Control Nurse for the Northern State Prison in Newark and Edna Mahan Correctional Facility located in Clinton, New Jersey. The Infection Control Nurse implements and evaluates the Statewide Infection Control Program at the Prison with a primary focus on HIV/AIDS infected inmates within New Jersey Department of Corrections (NJDOC) to ensure that NJDOC provides a safe environment for inmates and staff.
Duties include:
Identifies and assesses inmates with a primary focus on HIV/AIDS diagnosed individuals, high-risk inmates, and inmates requesting HIV counseling/education. Plans and coordinates inmate/patient access to primary medical care by ensuring scheduling of routine tests/procedures, maintaining current case management, and updating/ordering labs and medication under the supervision of the MD, as necessary Assists as a source of information and communication regarding infectious disease and infection control issues for the site.
Provides HIV pre/post testing counseling as needed. Provides discharge planning functions for HIV infected inmates. Assists the Statewide Infection Control Practitioner in developing and continuously updating a Statewide Quality Improvement Program for Infection Control. Implements surveillance program to establish and evaluate efficacy of staff practices, including monitoring infection control policies and procedures such as management of contaminated needles, syringes, razors, dressings, etc.

Qualifications
- Minimum Education and Experience
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing with a RN license to practice in the State of New Jersey. 2 years of documented clinical nursing experience. CPR Certification required. Computer literacy. Valid Driver's License is required and possess own vehicle or alternative means of transportation from one site to another

Physical Demands and Work Environment
- As a first responder must have the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes. Physically able to lift and carry upstairs an emergency treatment bag that can weigh up to 45 pounds and assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds).
