Responsibilities
  • Leadership/Human Resource Management In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, the ANM:
    • Participate with recruitment and retention strategies.
    • Assist with unit huddles and leader rounding with employees.
    • Participate with unit goal creation reflecting the hospital goals and the mission and vision of Hackensack Meridian Health.
    • Participate or lead when appropriate: evidence-based practice projects or research.
    • Participate or lead when appropriate: unit-based or hospital based shared governance committees or councils.
    • Resolve conflicts and facilitate constructive resolutions and positive outcomes if possible.
    • Complete employee corrective action plans/counseling as necessary.
    • Adhere to HMH Organizational and Managerial competencies and standards of behavior.
    • Prepare and conduct periodic performance evaluations for assigned staff members.
    • Contribute to and/or monitor the unit orientation process of all roles as necessary.
    • Participate with and model the importance of employee recognition.
    • Model cultural competence, social justice and fairness, and capitalize on generational diversity to foster highly effective work groups.
    • Where applicable, escalates nursing labor/management issues.
  • Financial Management The ANM collaborates with the Nurse Manager for efficient fiscal management of departmental activities to ensure proper utilization of hospital resources:
    • Participates in payroll, staff scheduling and daily staffing needs.
    • Assists in the management of the department budget.
    • Monitors business intelligence for the unit.
    • Maximizes care efficiency and throughput.
    • Understands the relationship between value-based purchasing and quality outcomes with revenue and reimbursement.
    • Monitors unit staffing productivity and flexes staff accordingly.
  • Quality and Safety/Performance Improvement In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, the ANM will:
    • Optimize the patient and family experience of care.
    • Lead multidisciplinary rounds.
    • Ensure unit-based performance improvement monitoring is completed, trended and reported internally and externally to the unit.
    • Lead or participate in quality improvement projects.
    • Lead or conduct root cause analysis investigations.
    • Assure unit regulatory compliance.
    • Participate in staff education and competency.
    • Serve as a role model to others and mentor new employees and new Charge RNs.
  • General Job Functions
    • Interpret, support, and communicate policies, standards and procedures.
    • Serve as a role model for staff in all aspects of nursing (i.e., professionalism, quality care).
    • Assist in identifying cost containment measures by identifying alternative measures of product utilization within the department.
    • Serve on-call based on unit requirements.
    • Assume special projects as assigned.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
    • Adhere to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications

Education,

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • A minimum of an associate in Nursing or diploma of Nursing degree.
  • BSN in progress and/or willing to acquire within three (3) years of hire (Note this applies to team members hired on or after February 2025).

    Note:

    Advanced master’s degree in nursing programs satisfy the BSN requirement (i.e., Associates to MSN).
  • Minimum 3 years recent nursing experience in respective specialty or equivalent. Exceptions may be made for internal candidates on a case by case basis (i.e., the candidate has a history of hospital administration education/experience).
