Penn Medicine is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join its Metabolic Medicine, Thyroid, Diabetes, and Endocrinology practice. This is an 8-week contract with the potential for extension and permanent hire based on performance and practice needs.
This role focuses primarily on patient education and telephone triage, providing education on diabetes management, glucose monitoring devices, injectable medications (such as Ozempic), medication refills, prior authorizations, and laboratory coordination. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, ambulatory nursing experience, and EPIC EMR proficiency.
Responsibilities- Provide patient education primarily by phone regarding diabetes, metabolic disorders, thyroid conditions, and endocrinology treatments.
- Educate patients on the use of glucose meters, continuous glucose monitors (CGMs), and injectable medications such as Ozempic.
- Perform telephone triage and assess patient concerns using sound clinical judgment.
- Process medication refill requests and coordinate prescription management.
- Complete and follow up on medication prior authorizations.
- Coordinate laboratory orders and communicate results to patients as directed.
- Document all patient interactions accurately in EPIC EMR.
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, and clinical staff to ensure continuity of care.
- Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care while maintaining confidentiality and regulatory compliance.
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Minimum 2 years of ambulatory, outpatient, endocrinology, diabetes, or patient education experience preferred.
- EPIC EMR experience is REQUIRED.
- Experience with telephone triage and patient education.
- Knowledge of diabetes management, glucose monitoring devices, and injectable medications is preferred.
- Strong communication, organization, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced ambulatory environment.
