Registered Nurse Hospice On Call

On-Call Hospice Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Bergen County, New Jersey

A local hospice organization serving Bergen County is seeking an experienced, compassionate On-Call Registered Nurse to provide responsive after-hours support to hospice patients and their families.

• Monday through Friday overnight on-call coverage

• One full weekend per month

• Rotating holiday coverage

• Triage after-hours calls from patients, families, facilities, and members of the care team

• Make in-person visits for changes in condition, symptom-management needs, or facility requests

• Complete hospice admissions after hours when needed

• Communicate with warmth, professionalism, and sound clinical judgment

• Coordinate medications and pharmacy needs through the pharmacy benefit manager (PBM)

• Complete accurate documentation promptly using a tablet or iPad

• Travel primarily throughout Bergen County, with occasional visits to surrounding areas based on census and patient needs

• Current, unrestricted New Jersey RN license

• Previous hospice nursing experience is required

• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel

• Experience working with a pharmacy benefit manager (PBM)

• Comfortable using tablets, iPads, and electronic medical records

• Strong telephone communication and customer-service skills

• Ability to think quickly, prioritize clinical needs, and work independently

• Warm, compassionate, and dependable approach to patient and family care

The ideal candidate is a calm and confident hospice nurse who can respond independently to changing patient needs while providing compassionate support during sensitive moments.
