Location: Rockaway

Mission Hires is partnering with a fast-paced, complex heavy industrial manufacturing plant in Rockaway, NJ to hire a Safety Specialist (plant level). This newly created, direct-hire role supports an 800-employee site within a 5-person EHS team, reporting to the Plant EHS Manager. The Safety Specialist will drive proactive safety initiatives, coach supervisors, conduct incident investigations with root-cause analysis, and deliver behavioral and human performance safety training.

Strong growth potential into larger site, divisional, or corporate EHS leadership roles. Salary: $80,000–$92,000.

Responsibilities
  • Support day-to-day plant safety programs in a heavy manufacturing environment
  • Partner with facility supervisors to coach and train on safe work practices and human performance/behavior-based safety
  • Lead or support incident/near-miss investigations, identify root causes, and recommend corrective/preventive actions
  • Shift safety culture from reactive to preventive through hazard identification and mitigation
  • Assist with safety training development, delivery, and compliance tracking
  • Support EHS Manager and broader 5-person EHS team in meeting site safety goals and KPIs
  • Conduct safety observations, walkthroughs, and audit activities to identify risks and drive continuous improvement
  • Contribute to documentation, reporting, and follow-up on corrective actions
  • Engage employees across departments to promote a strong safety mindset in a fast-paced production setting
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental, or related technical field from an accredited institution

  • At least 1–2 years of plant safety experience within heavy/industrial manufacturing operations

  • Experience conducting incident investigations with root-cause analysis and making actionable recommendations

  • Exposure to behavioral/human performance safety concepts and training

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with production supervisors and frontline employees

  • Proactive, prevention-focused mindset with strong problem-solving and follow-through

  • Strong communication and training delivery skills
