Summary
The Quality Control Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations of the Quality Control (QC) laboratory to support production schedules and quality objectives. This role supervises QC technicians, ensures compliance with established procedures and standards, and drives continuous improvement in testing accuracy, efficiency, and data integrity. The QC Supervisor investigates abnormal test results, identifies root causes, and provides technical guidance to the team while working closely with Production, Quality Assurance, R&D, and external laboratories.
Responsibilities
• Supervise and coordinate daily activities of the QC technicians.
• Ensure laboratory testing is performed in accordance with established procedures, specifications, and applicable standards.
• Collaborate with Production Control to plan and schedule testing activities that align with production requirements.
• Review, evaluate, and investigate abnormal or out-of-specification results; perform root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions.
• Provide technical and scientific guidance to QC staff to support accurate and timely testing.
• Develop, implement, and maintain training programs for QC technicians to ensure competency and compliance.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives within the QC laboratory, including process optimization, equipment upgrades, and resource planning.
• Assist Research & Development (R&D) with new test method implementation, method transfers, improvements, and related documentation.
• Work closely with the Quality Assurance (QA) department to support laboratory equipment qualification, calibration, and compliance activities.
• Coordinate with external laboratories and suppliers to support testing, equipment service, and material procurement.
• Maintain accurate documentation, records, and reports related to laboratory activities.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support quality and operational objectives.
Qualifications
• Strong working knowledge of analytical and mechanical testing methods, including spectrometry and mechanical testing.
• Thorough understanding of ASTM A370 standards.
• Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.
• Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis abilities.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact across departments and with external partners.
Education and/or Experience
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical or materials laboratory testing.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
