Your role

A. Creation and development. The Flavorist creates innovative flavors and/or modifies existing flavor formulations with embedded Symrise specialties (if applicable) which are initiated by customer projects and/or internal projects with limited supervision and responsibility with the support of a supervisor, if needed in highly complex projects for variety of applications. They evaluate, assess, and develop Symrise product solutions with superior flavor profiles and characteristics with a high commercial focus.

The Flavorist has full responsibility for their creations, preparing and transferring final flavor formulas and specifications for production with limited responsibility under the guidance of a supervisor. This includes conducting product shelf‑life tests and stability testing, participating in consumer research, and, if applicable, participating in IP evaluations and development of patent applications.

B. Coordination and collaboration. The Flavorist studies consumer requirements, conducts sensory evaluation, completes product safety data incl. flashpoint analysis and develops prototype formulations with full responsibility. They operate in liaison with Procurement and QC, assisting in the evaluation of alternate raw material suppliers, and they also support BU/Category/Sales personnel in the promotion of flavors, including customer visits for technical assistance.

C. Innovation & Technology. The Flavorist works on efficiency programs including formula linearization, cost reduction and raw material optimization. They also support the development of IT‑tools for product creation and product evaluation. The Flavorist contributes to customer satisfaction and success in customer briefs and proactive projects (individual KPIs will be defined separately by supervisor).

D. Compliance and safety. The Flavorist ensures compliance with all relevant occupational and product safety standards as well as with regulatory framework and flavor creation guidelines. They understand and adopt HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) and GLP (Good Laboratory Practices), ensuring health and safety of staff.

About you

Knowledge and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent in field related to job function.
  • Completion of a recognized flavorist training program (e.g. SY Flavor Academy or equivalent at a competitor, Flavorist schools like ISIPCA or others Flavorist schools) with mastery of flavor chemistry fundamentals
  • At least 5 years professional experience and 2–3 years as Junior Flavorist in the flavor industry or a related sector exceeding qualifications in the area new product development and creation
  • Qualification for Apprentice Membership in the Society of Flavor Chemists (for SY US colleagues, mainly) can be considered
  • Advanced knowledge of flavor creation techniques, sensory analysis, and an understanding of flavor raw materials and their interactions. Experience with HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) and GLP practices. Use of latest IT‑tools for flavor creation
  • Experienced with project management processes
  • Fluency in English is required. Additional languages relevant to the business region are a plus.
  • Flexibility to accept project‑related secondments in the Symrise Group
