Scientist – CTI (Consumer Technical Insights)
Background & Purpose of the Job
The North America Nutrition Business Unit in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey seeks a consumer‑savvy scientist to join the Consumer Technical Insights (CTI) team. CTI sits at the interface between product design and marketing, guiding brand and category design partners to create products that meet consumer needs with delightful experiences and desired benefits.
Who You Are & What You’ll Do- Basic appreciation of the design of a holistic consumer understanding plan for innovation projects.
- Independent design of consumer testing and analysis, interpreting data with guidance on final conclusions.
- Provide actionable insights rather than just data.
- Understand advanced testing, including preference mapping and modeling, and know when to apply them.
- Translate CTI information into technical targets for product design, development, and measurement (performance & attributes).
- Apply qualitative methods with some focus group and 1:1 interview experience.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate research following UL global guidelines and within project budget.
- Ensure a comprehensive understanding of testing purpose, documented procedures, data interpretation, results, conclusions, and insights.
- Execute projects of minimum complexity independently.
- Identify research needs, brief research partners, and lead discussions.
- Actively participate and conduct meetings with R&D, marketing, and Consumer Market Insights (CMI).
- Negotiate timelines and deliverables with project teams.
- Deliver aligned plans to CMI and the project team.
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Food Science, Data Science, Chemistry, Biology, Psychology, or a related discipline.
- More than 2 years of experience in CTI/Claims (consumer research, sensory, claims, and communication development), including internships, strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of sensory science, consumer research, statistics/data modeling a plus.
- Experience with sensory & consumer testing techniques, claim support, and demo‑creation techniques.
- Excellent communication skills.
Pay range: $71,400 to $107,200. Bonus eligible.
