Research Scientist, Regulatory Compliance Specialist
Location: East Hanover
Job Description
Working as part of a cross-functional team, you lead the R&D activities required to complete new product development and maintain portfolios and/or productivity projects with a goal to deliver the desired consumer experience.
How you will contributeYou will work independently to plan, lead and coordinate technical projects in line with R&D, marketing and manufacturing requirements. You will effectively communicate status and risks and plan, lead and coordinate pilot plant and factory trials in accordance with good manufacturing practice and HACCP requirements. In addition, you will plan, lead and coordinate development activities (e.g., product shelf‑life testing, designing for quality, consumer test preparation).
To provide direction for product development, you will use digital simulation models to obtain, understand and interpret consumer insights and commercial information. In this role, you will create and maintain accurate consumer‑led specifications and be responsible for stakeholder management and influencing decisions based on conclusions made from analysis and interpretation of results.

- Be able to manage multiple stakeholders and influence cross‑functional teams
- Have strong knowledge of the I2M process, taking projects from ideas to commercialization
- Plan and execute work plans, including development of risk assessments and contingency plans
- Identify and efficiently utilize necessary resources to achieve timely delivery of project objectives
- Understand functional characteristics of ingredients, packaging materials, and processing capabilities and how they impact the finished product
- Leverage the value in MDLZ experts/partners, demonstrate understanding of the NA supply chain network, and ensure compliance with quality documentation, regulatory requirements, FTO/IP, and confidentiality requirements
Bachelor’s in Food Science, Chemistry, or related field
Job specific requirements- Minimum of 5 years of experience, preferably in the food industry
- Strong technical foundation and technical curiosity
- Ability to develop, plan for, and carry out plant trials
- Able to develop and drive technical projects with proper scientific rigor: conduct appropriate testing, gather and analyze data, and develop recommendations based on findings
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects, prioritize and manage complexity from bench top to commercialization
- Participate in cross‑functional teams to identify and resolve technical issues
- Write process specifications that deliver consistent, high‑quality products across numerous manufacturing facilities
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; able to effectively communicate to all levels within the organization
30% travel to locations in Canada, U.S. and Mexico.
Work scheduleThis position is based in East Hanover, NJ, as main location, and Whippany, NJ as an additional location with a hybrid work model offering a mix of onsite and remote flexibility.
Salary and BenefitsThe base salary range for this position is $86,900 to $119,515; the exact salary depends on experience, skills, education and location. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for participation in a highly competitive bonus program with possibility for over achievement based on performance and company results. Benefits include health insurance, wellness and family support programs, life and disability insurance, retirement savings plans, paid leave programs, education related programs, paid holidays and vacation time.
