Position: Part-Time, Wildlife Research Intern *
Location: Branchburg Township

Position

Part‑time (20‑30 hours per week) Wildlife Research Intern in the Science & Engineering Department at Raritan Valley Community College.

Responsibilities
  • Assist ongoing research and restoration efforts related to the population ecology of white‑tailed deer and their effects on central and northern New Jersey forests and communities.
  • Collect and record data on deer populations, including night‑time surveys using road‑based spotlights and drone‑based infrared cameras.
  • Construct and monitor deer exclosures and other field structures.
  • Participate in additional research activities based on student interests and project needs.
  • Attend brief weekly organizational meetings with the lab group.
Requirements
  • Current RVCC student in good academic standing or recent graduate.
  • Interest and/or experience in ecology or conservation field work.
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor outdoors for 6–8 hours per day under varying weather conditions.
  • Personal transportation and willingness to drive up to 1–2 hours to field sites.
  • Plant and/or animal identification skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to identify mammal species of the eastern United States.
  • Field research experience in zoology or forest ecology.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Proficiency with GIS software.
