Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook food per recipes and instructions of the Executive Chef in accordance with nutritional guidelines, regulations, and residents’ individual prescribed diet and food preferences.
- Present food in an appetizing and attractive manner.
- Ensure that food is delivered on time and in a pleasant manner.
- Notify the Executive Chef of any malfunctioning kitchen equipment or appliances.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of food in accordance with infection control standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support the overall objectives of the department and organization.
- Prior experience in Food Services, preferably in cooking for large groups.
- Interest in working with the elderly.
- Knowledge of safety procedures, including safe storage and cooking temperatures for ingredients in order to avoid foodborne illness.
- Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate on complex dishes.
- Interpersonal skills to interact with a variety of other people, such as waitstaff, dishwashers, management, and sometimes residents.
- Calm demeanor to work in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.
- Accountable for the dishes they prepare, measuring up to the expectations of management and residents alike.
- Comprehension and organization of direct orders and recipes and the ability to correctly prepare dishes to the standards of the facility.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to handle tools, such as knife techniques for chopping, slicing, cutting, and dicing.
- Ability to stand in one place for hours at a time, handle extreme heat, and work shifts.
High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency certificate is required. Possession of/or the ability to obtain a Serve Safe Certificate.
Job Setting/Physical DemandsTo fulfill job requirements, the employee must be able to perform key physical tasks for extended periods of time. Proper body mechanics and safety measures as prescribed by the residence must be used. In a typical eight-hour day, the employee may:
Stand/walk up to eight hours a day. Frequently support up to 70 pounds. Occasionally lift/carry up to 35 pounds. Frequently kneel, bend, and reach.
