Overview

The Assistant Store Director (ASD) is actively involved in and provides friendly, courteous, and helpful customer service daily. The ASD assists the Store Director (SD) with the total operations of the store and performs various duties personally or through supervision of store employees (100+ bargaining unit and non-contract employees).

All ASD’s must be willing and able to work and train at any store within the district where they are hired. This district consists of stores in the following towns/locations:
Bedminster, Booton, Chatham, Cresskill, Florham Park, Garden City, Garwood, Hillsdale, Hoboken, Livingston, Mendham, Midland Park, Upper Montclair, Morristown, Old Greenwich, Short Hills, Summit, Verona, and Whitehouse Station.

Pay Transparency
:
The salary range is $68k to $80k annually with quarterly bonus potential. Starting salary will vary based on criteria such as location, experience, and qualifications. There may be flexibility for exceptional candidates. The total comp package yearly can include 12 days PTO, 40 hrs of sick time, 6 recognized holidays, 401k match of up to 7%, Pet insurance, EPA benefits, and so much more!

Responsibilities

  • Manage the store during the absence of the Store Director with authority to operate at maximum efficiency.
  • Supervise all store employees; orient, train, develop, schedule, payroll, evaluate performance, and manage personnel actions (e.g., hiring, promoting, disciplining).
  • Perform or delegate security and cash control procedures, handle customer complaints, report accidents/injuries, maintain sanitation standards, and manage office and accounting functions.
  • Maintain in-stock conditions and ensure communication between departments and store personnel.

Key Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

  • Overall management of store operations during the Store Director’s absence, including store performance, cash control, inventory, security, customer service, and staff management.
  • Track, analyze, and act to improve store performance by forecasting weekly/daily sales goals and meeting/exceeding targets.
  • Communicate sales goals, department performance, and opportunities with staff to ensure positive results.
  • Forecast, schedule, and monitor labor to align with sales and productivity guidelines and wage budgets; develop action plans for cost control.
  • Support Store Director with development and execution of strategies to improve product placement and appearance.
  • Monitor display accuracy and appearance to implement promotions; ensure products are properly displayed and ordered to maintain in-stock conditions.
  • Manage issues related to store maintenance, cleanliness, safety, and sanitation.
  • Oversee cash handling and accounting; ensure store security.
  • Prioritize, plan, and coordinate work activities to meet objectives; manage time and resources effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements and company policies, including check cashing, security, safety, sanitation, wage and hour laws.
  • Focus on customer satisfaction and coach employees to provide superior customer service.
  • Select, train, develop, and manage performance of store employees with assistance from other management personnel.
  • Provide constructive feedback, set performance expectations, and identify assignments for developmental opportunities.
  • Maintain professional relationships with union officials and ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreement provisions, if applicable.
  • Preserve positive working relationships with direct reports, peers, supervisors, suppliers, and customers; handle complex situations effectively.
  • Motivate others to perform and serve as a role model, fostering a positive attitude among employees.
  • May perform other management duties to keep the store functioning effectively.
