Security Specialist

Job Overview

The Starting Hourly Rate is $19.25 per hour. The Pay Range is $19.25 – $28.90 per hour.

Target Security Specialists are part of the Assets Protection (AP) team. Their primary role is to keep guests, team members, and the brand secure by preventing theft, fraud, and other loss.

• Create an easy, inspiring, and friendly guest experience: greet guests, help them locate items, resolve issues, and thank them.
• Promote a physical security culture by assessing and maintaining safe and secure standards throughout the store, including exterior property.
• Respond to and accurately document security incidents in a timely manner.
• Leverage de‑escalation tactics and resources when responding to incidents across the store.
• Conduct merchandise theft recoveries and provide theft‑apprehension support as needed, strictly following AP policies.
• Prevent theft and shortage at the front of store by performing merchandise receipt checks, recognizing trends, and communicating them.
• Submit appropriate documentation in the case management system for all incidents in accordance with AP policy and procedures.
• Use Target’s video surveillance system and document cases accurately.
• Demonstrate an ethical conduct culture, safety and compliance.
• Work safely at all times; comply with safety policies, report hazards, and correct them where possible.
• Perform any other duties based on business needs.

• Minimum age 18 years or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Meet any state or local licensure and/or other legal requirements related to the position.
• Welcoming and helpful attitude toward all guests and team members.
• Ability to communicate on multiple frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology equipment.
• Effective communication skills.
• Work independently and with a team.
• Manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
• Remain focused and composed in a fast‑paced environment while accomplishing multiple tasks.
• Comfortable with a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and peak shopping times.
• Physical condition: climb ladders, lift up to 40 pounds, move merchandise efficiently and safely.
• Remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift.
• Handle varying temperatures, humidity, and other environmental conditions while performing job duties.
