Analytical Chemist – Flavor & Fragrance Research Position Type: 1 year contract with additional opportunity contingent upon performance and continued business need

Union Beach, NJ Shift: 1st Shift Benefits: 401K, Dental insurance, Life Insurance, Medical Insurance, Vision Insurance, PTO Compensation: $32-$39/HR Responsibilities
- Execute complex technical work under the general direction of technical management
- Perform isolation and concentration of flavor compounds from food and beverage products using techniques such as liquid-liquid extraction (LLE), distillation, and headspace collection methods including SPME
- Acquire, analyze, and develop interpretation skills for chromatographic data using GC-MS, HPLC, and LC-MS
- Document and maintain analytical data generated from flavor research projects
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure the lab remains organized, functional, and compliant with safety standards
- Interpret and analyze experimental results, identify issues or anomalies, and recommend next steps based on findings
- Contribute to work planning, daily workflow management, and continuous improvement of analytical methods
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or a related scientific field required
- Master's degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or a related field preferred
- 1–2 years of experience in a wet chemistry laboratory
- Familiarity with or interest in analytical separation techniques and laboratory instrumentation
- Familiarity with or interest in the flavor and fragrance industry
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while conducting experiments, technical operations, and analytical projects
- Strong ability to recognize unexpected or erroneous results, interpret findings, and recommend next steps or alternative approaches
- Experience adapting methodologies to support current research and project needs preferred
