We currently have an opportunity for a Chemist within the Fragrance division located in Rockleigh, NJ. The Chemist works in a lab conducting experiments on various product forms and to create a new product or improve an existing product. Their duties include examining the chemical make-up of different materials, performing quality control tests on current experiments, and creating technical reports and papers on the specifications and outcomes of tests, products, and processes.

Under the guidance of the Lab Manager, the Applications Chemist works mostly independently with supervision as needed.

Essential Job Functions include:
  • Prepare compounds, solutions, and reagents to support testing and experimentation; advise on and coordinate test procedures.
  • Determine relationships between chemical and physical properties, composition, structure, and reactions of organic and inorganic compounds.
  • Develop and optimize equipment, products, formulations, analytical methods, and processes.
  • Collaborate with perfumers, evaluators, and scientists on test design, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Document findings in technical reports; establish specifications and testing standards; provide reports to management and cross-functional teams.
  • Partner with the Lab Manager to ensure adherence to procedures and quality standards.
  • Conduct sample preparation and product testing for commercial, creative, and technical applications.
  • Stay current on technical developments and anticipate emerging customer needs.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and manage inventory, including proactive ordering of supplies and chemicals.
  • Provide technical guidance to internal teams and customers to support project objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and corporate guidelines.
  • Maintain accuracy with all and ensure complete laboratory records.
  • Train, develop, and support staff to achieve team goals.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications include:

Educational

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or closely related field required. MS degree preferred.

Experience:

Five (5) + years of fragrance industry experience in application, formulation development, and product performance evaluation. Experience across personal care, home care, air care required, along with the ability to independently manage projects from concept through commercialization. The equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

Must be a team player, highly collaborative, creative, problem solver and possess a growth mindset and servant leadership style. Must be able to handle multiple projects in parallel while maintaining high level quality in execution, analysis, interpretation, and report writing.
