The Utility Worker may be assigned to perform any responsibility that lies within the capability of the employee based on experience, knowledge, qualifications, and training. This position is a progression.
Qualifications & Requirements- The Utility Worker must possess geographical knowledge of the Company's service area and water distribution and sewer collection systems as well as an understanding of gradients, piping networks, basic fluid and flow principles, and basic electrical theory and related safety procedures.
- The individual must be capable of interpreting diagrams, blueprints, schematics, and maps and possess a working knowledge of cross-connection control and reduced pressure zone backflow preventors. The Utility Worker must have a working knowledge of Company policies, procedures, and safety practices applicable to area of responsibility as well as federal regulations regarding confined spaces, trenching and shoring, and Competent Person.
- The individual must possess a working knowledge of the various materials utilized in the sewer collection system and transmission and distribution systems and possess the ability to properly and safely make necessary taps, restraints, and repairs to insure the integrity of the sewer collection system and transmission and distribution systems.
- The individual must be capable of operating Company equipment and vehicles necessary for the completion of assigned responsibilities and must possess a Commercial Drivers' License (Class
A) with appropriate endorsements. - The individual must be able to perform the essential functions and meet the physical requirements of Utility Worker.
Utility Worker responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Coordinate, monitor, and control the safe and efficient utilization of Company equipment and assigned personnel. Calling out additional employees when needed using the on-call list.
- Locate, access, operate, and repair Company facilities such as, but not limited to, mains, hydrants, blow-offs, services, curb stops, shutoff valves, and plumbing fixtures.
