Job OverviewThe Mobile Diesel Technician II performs DOT inspections, preventive maintenance, light and advanced repairs, and advanced diagnostics. The role requires independent work, high productivity, and strong customer communication.
Responsibilities- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Make minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment such as electrical, braking, cooling, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment, using test instruments like handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
- Road‑test vehicles to confirm proper operation after repairs.
- Identify problems and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
- Manage parts inventory and equipment in the company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and complete pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
- Communicate effectively with clients to assess needs and provide assistance.
- Prioritize concurrent tasks and manage daily schedule independently.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work on Repair Orders (RO) using an iOS device and the TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation in a timely manner.
- Work in compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
- High School Diploma/GED and at least 3 years of related experience (additional education or experience may substitute).
- At least 3 years of experience with refrigerated equipment.
- Supply a complete set of hand tools necessary for duties.
- OEM training and certifications are preferred.
- Complete all company‑required training.
- Pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical, or possess a valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining.
- Must be at least 21 years old and hold a valid state driver’s license eligible for a Driver Qualification File.
