Location: McGuire AFB
Duties - Plans and lays out welding assignments from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, and work orders.
- Performs duties in a safe manner, utilizing safety practices and procedures, and complying with established safety rules and regulations.
- Performs routine maintenance, repair, and inspection of various types of mechanical or electronic locks such as mortise, cylinder, deadbolt, GSA safes and vaults, office equipment, padlocks, and emergency exit devices.
- Independently applies skilled methods, techniques, and advanced shop mathematics to construct, install, repair, and modify a wide variety of structures.

* The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position.
* May be required to train and/or guide lower grade or lesser experienced employees as required.
* May be required to be certified for working with/and or removing hazardous materials.
* Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
* This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4700 GENERAL MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS WORK GROUP. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.
Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS:
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
* Knowledge of a wide range of welding principles, processes, and techniques and how various metals and metal alloys react to welding processes and skill in formulating plans, patterns, and templates involving straight and curved edges or irregular curves, angles and planes; in layout and pattern development in fabricating complex items from a variety of materials such as galvanized or stainless steel, black iron, aluminum, and alloys;
in using and maintaining a variety of metal and welding tools, equipment, and measuring instruments.
* Knowledge of carpentry methods and techniques and precision carpentry equipment and skill in using, setting-up, operating, and maintaining a variety of woodworking power and hand tools/equipment; constructing, installing, repairing, and modifying wood structures; and in interpreting complex instructions, sketches, blueprints, and building codes.
* Knowledge of the internal structure and operating characteristics to repair and maintain a variety of standard mechanical and combination-type locking devices; and skill in keying and rekeying locks; and installing locking devices.
* Knowledge of safety and environmental standards, regulations and requirements.
* Knowledge of advanced shop mathematics to plan, compute, and lay out more complex and exact projects; and of regulations, procedures, and policies related to records maintenance and documentation.
* Skill in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and technical specifications and ability to produce finished products with precise fits, accurate dimensions, and acceptable performance. PHYSICAL EFFORT:
