Lead Maintenance Mechanic

Raritan Valley Community College is seeking a Lead Maintenance Mechanic to perform mechanical, electrical, and plumbing maintenance and repair work under the direction of the Building & Grounds Manager.

• Diagnose and repair causes of electrical and control malfunctions in equipment (programmable controllers, transformers, relays, switches, transmitters, monitoring devices).
• Install new electrical equipment as required.
• Use electrical test equipment and tools properly.
• Keep department leadership informed of unusual conditions, damaged equipment, and current job progress.
• Maintain equipment by cleaning, adjusting, performing preventative or corrective maintenance; write and submit work orders as necessary.
• Repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment (engines, motors, pneumatic controls, etc.) using hand tools, power tools, and precision instruments.
• Repair and replace electrical components (lights, switches, outlets, circuit breakers).
• Maintain building utility systems (electrical wiring, control, heating, ventilation, water supply, steam, refrigeration).
• Perform plumbing repair and installation, including heating, domestic water, gas, drainage systems per codes.
• Coordinate and direct outside contractors as required.
• Perform capital project and major program responsibilities as assigned.
• Understand and comply with facility safety and regulatory procedures.
• Assist in campus-wide emergencies such as snow and tree removal.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 3-5 years of experience in central plant operations.
• Formal training and experience in electrical, HVAC, and plumbing trades.
• Black Seal License or ability to obtain a license within 12 months.
• Valid driver's license.
• Knowledge of all facets of plant operations.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, write routine reports, solve practical issues, and make competent decisions in emergency situations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Sitting, standing, bending, walking, kneeling, climbing.
• Lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds for a distance of 50 feet.
• Handle equipment up to 50 pounds while pushing, pulling, lifting, twisting, and reaching.
